Days in the Life

Plunder... Even as I was dazzled by the museum's wonders, I couldn't help but think about the methods originally employed to build this epic collection. In those days of imperial might, leave was given to tear up the ancient places of origin, to strip them of their riches, all in the name of science and curiosity. I suppose it's a continuing conundrum for museums and zoos, but surely the wholesale movements of artefacts of this magnitude would never be acceptable today. It's the dark side to this place of learning and light, and it sobered my initial flights of giddy enthusiasm.an image of one of the Egyptian rooms, overflowing with neck-straining artefacts of the ancient world...
